Chapter 35, Migrant Melancholia: Emergent Discourses of Mexican Migrant Traffic in Transnational Space by Alicia Schmidt Camacho. This essay covers the frequency of missing migrants from Mexico. There are Mexicans who come to work in the United States that return to Mexico after working. These workers are starting to go missing. One of the reasons this issue was brought to light was when the World Trade Center was attacked and family members started looking for their family members. The essay features different migrant workers that have gone missing. There are pictures that are used in hopes of figuring out where the individuals may have been. Azucena Quezada Olea has been missing since 2002 the essay talks about how the picture and what she is wearing was looked at to find clues of where she may be. Another featured migrant worker was Odilon Vera Mendez; he has been missing since 2001. He is listed online as missing with the description of his height, weight, age, eye color, and complexion. In his photo he is wearing a race jersey with his running number on his chest which is used as his identification number. These people may never be found and its all because they are undocumented migrant workers.
