First I want to start off by saying this book is amazing. While reading these chapters I felt like I was sitting in the room with these ladies while they told me part of their life stories. The chapter “Colonize This!” was amazing. When it seemed like she had written off her dad and hadn’t talked to him forever while in all reality he was still a very big part of her life. To the writer her dad is in a way a monster for treating women the way he does. According to her, her father married her mother because she was uneducated, poor and had low self-esteem, as well as he knew that she would work hard and do anything he asked her to do. The writer refers to a few times that his father tells his single friends that they need to find themselves a good Mexican wife that they will take care of them, they are very obedient and very good cooks. He also influenced his son to marry a Mexican woman as well. The writer learned a lot about her dad and men in general from her dad. She also learned that she is important no matter her color or her race. While referring to her father she explains him as a monster while going on in another paragraph about how she almost looked up to her father and his views as encourage her to overcome.
