In Praise of Difficult Chicas: Feminism and Femininity was written by Adriana Lopez. The writer of this piece started off talking about her Tia in Colombia. She talks about her Tia Esthercita’s different kind of lifestyle. She explains how her Tia had opened a high-end brothel in Bogotá, Colombia after failing to find tenants to her house she had constructed. The writer refers to her two mothers, explaining that she looked up to both her Tia and her mother since they both were very strong, independent, Latina women. After being inspired by other women of color and Latinas she became a freelance writer traveling different places in Latina America so she could more completely write about the differences between the issues of Latina women in different parts of America. I found her article interesting to read but it was not a writing that really kept my attention.
