Chapter 8 in my literature review of Vicki Ruiz's Unequal Sisters: An Inclusive Reader in US Women’s History, 4th Edition covered how women were more of a property to men. Anything the women did would profit a man and his so called estate. The chapter covers how women’s household duties and really how women survived. Through the chapter I realize that somethings haven’t changed for instance when it comes to how women’s earnings go to their husbands. I know that today this is not always the case but in my experience it has been the case in two out of three of my marriages (eeekk lol). The women worked hard they were scavenging for anything from food to clothing to needed household items. These women worked together to help each other survive. This chapter was pretty interesting in that I could compare from back then to today and see the things that were similar and different. I feel like still today men or women that have a spouse at home don’t realize the amount of worth their spouse has in that how much money they actually save them. Monies that could go to daycare or cleaning services is actually saved.
